ReelBrazil's blogIn November 2009, just before the summer officially kicks off, the REEL BRAZIL FILM FESTIVAL (RBFF) will bring out the drums for its first edition at Te Papa’s modern Soundings Theatre. The festival will show classics from the Brazilian cinema, as well as recent productions and an animation programme from the new wave of films being produced in Brazil. For this first edition, RBFF will by making a tribute to Samba and the Brazilian Carnaval; from its traditional roots through to its Hollywood 1940’s and 1950’s flair and glory impersonated by Carmen Miranda all the way to today’s lively Carnaval in the streets of Bahia. Carmen Miranda is the iconic Portuguese born and Brazilian raised entertainer and actress that conquered the 1940’s and 1950’s Broadway with her Brazilian tunes and moves, her exotic clothes and trademark headpiece with hanging fruits and extravagant tropical adornments!!!
