PLASTIC PAPER: WINNIPEG'S ANIMATION FESTIVAL started in 2008 as a mini-program hosted by the Winnipeg Cinematheque before branching out into an independent event. The event is a mix of premieres, retrospective screenings, short films and features with special guests, workshops, Artist talks, parties and more. Although some programming is kid-friendly, PLASTIC PAPER is not a children's festival: many of the featured works come in a variety of animation styles (with a preference for 2D drawing and stop-motion) with sometimes challenging subject matter. PLASTIC PAPER is presented by the same people who put on the CINEMUERTE INTERNATIONAL FANTASTIC FILM FESTIVAL and BIG SMASH! MUSIC SCENE.
