The 8th Edition of Jewish Eye – World Jewish Films Festival will be held on November 13-21.2011

The scheduled screenings and events will be at the International Convention Center, Ashkelon academic college

The opening Gala event will be held at the Ashkelon culture center on November 13, 2011.

It includes films from all over the world, features, documentaries and short films.
In the world there exist about one hundred festivals of Jewish films yearly, and “Jewish Eye” has a place of honor among them keeping gaining momentum.

This year are in program for the public interested in Jewish cinema about 80 films from 20 countries in a competition that carries prizes. All films are shown on Israeli premiere and this is for some films the only time they can be seen by israeli public. In the Festival there is a variegated junction of the Jewish culture: stories from Eastern Europe, North Africa, Americas and of course Israel; Jewish history, Holocaust memories, Jewish festivities customs, faiths and lifestyle, Israel-Diaspora relations, personal stories showing universal and private subjects - all that in one Jewish cultural 9-day event.

Mr Micha Harish, Chairman of the Israeli Film Council wrote:” Film creation, full feature and documentary enriches us culturally, and there is a greats significance in our relations with all the Jewish world. the filmakers prove that cinematographic language is a bridge above time or distance.”

Aharon Yadlin , Festival Chairman in winner of Israel Prize 2010 said:” The strength of Israel is not only its security and does not just summarize in its scientific and technological advancement. It is also expressed in the cultural life, in art creations. Jewish Eye , Jewish Film Festival is a cultural experience of vast erudition.”

Mr. Beni Vaknin, Mayor of Ashkelon says: “Ashkelon being an ancient city which combines old with new, history of the Jewish people with actual development of 21st century, is the appropriate place to host a festival of Jewish cinema.”
