Opening Night at San Francisco International Animation Festival

#
Last night's 'Glitch' was wonderful-the animation by Eric Leiser, and music by his brother Jeff, were both superb, and Jay Masonek gave a poignant and very expressive performance as himself! Truly was glad I made it to the opening night to see this stunner-the animation really was spectacular! The film was unusual as far as having a kind of flowing structure- the best way I can describe it is as a somewhat dream-like collage of symbolic images, natural beauty, and a yearning for more innocent ...

West Virginia mountaineer short film festival will take place in the historic Warner Theater in downtown Morgantown. Built by the Warner Brothers, H. M., Major Albert, and J.L nearly 80 years ago, this distinguished movie house is reminiscent of the early years of film. It's a perfect venue for screening works that strive to be new, innovative and original, as our festival does. Its historical significance also lends itself to one of the festival's areas of emphasis, exploring regional/Appalac...

4th edition of Iranian Film Festival, the Netherlands

This year the Iranian Film Festival will be held in the Netherlands for the 4th time.  On a new location in the city of Zaandam, a wide audience can once again become acquainted with everything the Iranian cinema has to offer. But not only the festival’s location changes this year: the themes of its movies will also expand and deepen. For instance, there will be special attention for Iranian hiphop, 30 years of Islamic Revolution, ánd we will take an interesting look beyond Iran’s borders in Central Asia. The Iranian Film Festival will take place between the 18-19-20th of December 2009.   In the past four years, the Iranian Film Festival has made a name for itself by offering a very diverse program that is both independent and critical. The festival not only screens a vast range of films by well-known filmmakers but also searches for young and yet undiscovered talents, who get a chance to show their creativity in films, documentaries, short movies, music and animation. In addition, the Iranian Film Festivals sets a perfect stage for thorough discussions on different aspects of Iranian society, which are often represented only superficially by the media.

Also this years’ Iranian Film Festival promises to become a unique event, where visitors will be treated to the newest Iranian films and music shows. Special guests from in- ánd outside the Netherlands will moreover talk about their view on Iranian cinema and its relation to the current society as a whole.

VAFI - Call for Entry

VAFI – International Children and Youth Animation Film Festival Varaždin

We have founded VAFI – International Children and Youth Animation Film Festival in desire to make Varaždin and Croatia a place where children and youth, professionals, our guests and all animation lovers will be able to exchange their experience and make new friendships beyond their own states; a place where children and young people will enjoy films; where they will learn and associate at the same time.

Our wish is to stop the negative trend of individualization and ill will among ourselves and to erase all physical and menatal boundaries. So we have decided that every year one school from Varaždin will host our young national and international guests. In this way VAFI will be the true festival of films, animation, children and youth and not only the festival of prizes.

As Varaždin being one of the most beautiful and most developed cities in Croatia, it is ideal for hosting the festival in which we want to unite quality, knowledge, professionalism, company, fun, creation and creativity into a  perfect balance.

  • PARTNER OF THE FESTIVAL - Every year VAFI will have a partner – either a country or an author. In 2012 is Japan

  • ACCOMMODATION - Every year VAFI will be in partnership with one school from Varaždin. Children from that school will be hosts to our national and international guests. In that way we want to initiate tolerance, friendship and learning about other cultures.

  • CATEGORIES - VAFI has three categories divided by age. In that way awards could be given more fairly.  Every category has its name.
 MINI - children under 10 years  MIDI - children from 11 – 14 years

 MAXI - youth from 15 – 18 years.

  • PRIZES - VAFI will award five prizes per category, from which one will be the first prize and the other four will be equal second prizes. The prize will be the statue and diploma for the first places and diploma for the second places.

Each year, after a careful pre-selection, the top 15-20 features and 40-50 shorts, documentaries and animation films have the opportunity to compete in the official program. Most of the films came from Central Europe, from the US and Germany, but we received films from Indonesia to South America. Many attractive supplementary programs, exhibitions, concerts, film history workshops, roundtable discussions will accompany the nightly screenings. Our CineClassics series started in 2010: explore with us Hungary's exceptionally rich film heritage: Oscar winner British screenwriter Emeric Pressburger was born in Miskolc, legendary founder of Paramount PicturesAdolph Zukor in the nearby village Ricse, 20th Century-Fox founder William Fox in Tolcsva, in the heart of the renowned Tokaj wine region, just to name a few.  The 2009 conference dedicated to Emeric Pressburger (with the participation of his Oscar winner grandson Kevin Macdonald), and the 2010 workshop about Zoltan Korda was a true gem.

Jameson CineFest is one of the most attractive festivals of Central Europe, where our guests can get know the fresh cavalcade of world cinema, the hidden treasures of film history, fine food and drinks, concerts and parties - with true Hungarian hospitality.
