Another morning...damn it, and the year is almost half way gone. How does this even happen?
Well, here is something for you to do...I am trying to pitch my short film idea about the November 17th, 1989 Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia.
If I get the most votes, the short will premiere at Tribeca 2012 film festival.
So, if you can help, please go here and click THUMBS UP on my video.
You can watch it bellow first if you prefer.
And if you really like this, tell at least one of your fri...
SHE MONKEYS, a coming of age film with sexual undertones from Swedish director Lisa Aschan was named Best Narrative Film at the 10th Tribeca Film Festival, which ended its 12 day run yesterday. The film, which won a top prize at the Gothenberg Film Festival and the Teddy Award as best gay film at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, is a hothouse story of emerging sexuality set amongst teenage girls in a horse acrobatics training school. Competition, both athletic and sexual, b...
Aside from the smorgasboard of films on tap at this year’s 10th Tribeca Film Festival, which runs through Sunday, the event has been filled with very interesting film panels and talks. One of the most interesting took place on Tuesday entitled Digital By Design. Paramount Digital Entertainment president Tom Lesinski led a panel of experts to discuss how social media can assist in both the marketing and the distribution of independent films.
Now that more movies are being distr...
With the Tribeca Film Festival reaching its mid-point, one does not necessarily have to be in New York to be part of the excitement. The Tribeca (Online) Film Festival, supported by founding partner American Express, is a pioneering digital initiative that allows audiences across the USA to view feature and short films for free and worldwide audiences to engage with filmmakers and industry experts as the Tribeca Film Festival’s 10th edition runs concurrently in lower Manhattan from Ap...
It has been quite a year for veteran actor Robert De Niro. In January, he was honored at the Golden Globes with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Currently, his brainchild and labor of love, the Tribeca Film Festival, is celebrating its 10th anniversary as one of New York’s most provocative film and culture showcases. Next month, De Niro heads to the south of France as President of the Jury at the Cannes Film Festival. After more than 50 years in the business and a film career that spans ...
FIRE IN BABYLON (USA)
America’s twin obsessions with the movies and sports finds voice at the Tribeca Film Festival, particularly with its Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film series. With sports-topic films such as WIN WIN and SOUL SURFER making major waves at the theatrical box office, the commercial viability of the sports story remains a potent one. The films in the series offer a variety of pleasures, both visual and sensual. FIRE IN BABYLON by Stevan Riley is a story of the succe...
A sneak preview of the music documentary WHEN THE DRUM IS BEATING will be featured at the Tribeca Drive-In this evening as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. The screening will be followed by a free live concert by Haiti's beloved national band Orchestre Septentrional at the World Financial Center Plaza in Battery Park City in lower Manhattan. WHEN THE DRUM IS BEATING is a feature documentary by director Whitney Dow about Haiti’s rich musical culture and the legendary band the Orc...
The 10th edition of the Tribeca Film Festival opens this evening with a free world premiere screening of the Cameron Crowe documentary THE UNION, about the album collaboration between iconic musicians Elton John and Leon Russell. The film will be screened on a first come, first serve basis tonight at the North Cove at the World Financial Plaza, just yards away from Ground Zero. Elton John, Leon Russell and the band they assembled for the album will perform live immediately after the sc...
The Tribeca Film Festival, which begins on April 20, turns ten years old this year. It seems like only yesterday that the event sparked controversy (and not a little enmity) among the denizens of the city’s arthouse upper crust. Launched a few months after the event of 9/11 by Robert De Niro, a downtown celebrity and major property owner, the Festival was designed to create interest and to attract locals and tourists back to the neighborhoods economically devastated by the colla...
The Canadian music documentary RUSH: BEYOND THE LIGHTED STAGE has won the Heineken Audience Award at the 9th Tribeca Film Festival, which concludes today. The award includes a cash prize of $25,000 for the film's co-directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn. The Award was voted on by audiences attending the Festival by completing nomination ballots upon exiting Festival public screenings.
The film, which had its World Premiere at the Festival, is a valentine to the legendary C...
Alex Gibney
Last week, Tribeca Film Festival founder Jane Rosenthal jokingly referred to this year's Festival as "The Alex Gibney Film Festival". Gibney, a respected documentarian who won the Oscar for the film TAXI TO THE DARKSIDE, has three films featured at this year's event.
In MY TRIP TO AL-QAEDA, Gibney adapts an acclaimed one-man theater piece by playwright Lawrence Wright to offer a deft and alarming look at...
Economic blues got you counting your pennies? Volcanic ash delaying your flight to New York? Can't get motivated to get dressed and come downtown? Afraid to be seen in public? Well, if you are a cinema lover and cannot quite overcome your own neuroses or spewing volcanos to attend this year's Tribeca Film Festival, don't despair.....the Festival is now coming to you.

Soul Kitchen (Fatih Akin, Germany)
This year’s Tribeca Film Festival, which is currently in the middle of its 12 day run in New York City, boasts a strong representation of both veteran and emerging European talents. As a whole, the Festival offers a tantalizing check of the pulse of current trends and styles in European filmmaking. How these films will fare in the US market is far from certain, but for the next week, European cinema rules in downtown New York.
The na...

SONS OF PERDITION
It can be argued that what separates A list film festivals from their colleagues are the number of World Premieres that grace their theaters. No matter what the ultimate reception is for these films, the wanna-see anticipation of films in their first public and industry showings provide a sizzle. At the Tribeca Film Festival, which is entering its first weekend, there are an impressive number of World Premieres that are grabbing attention from the public and in...
"Modoki" is the Japanese word for "similar, yet different." Take for example the Tribeca Film Festival (April 21 to May 2, 2010), and October's New York Film Festival. Both are Manhattan cinema extravaganzas — whose overlaps end there. Populist Tribeca plays teriyaki to artsy NYFF's sashimi.
Nearly four decades the Lincoln Center event's junior, Tribeca was founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff as a goad to downtown development in th...
The Tribeca Film Festival, which opens tomorrow evening, is just in its 9th year (a baby by the standards of such veterans as Cannes, Venice, San Francisco and other 50 plus film events). In under a decade, the Festival has made a strong impression, being one of the few that is looking to create a brand name that is instantly recognizable and represents a particular kind of film culture (think Cannes, think Sundance). The Sundance connection is especially relevant, with this year...
Don't look now....but green monsters are walking the streets of Manhattan!!! Such news will hardly get a busy, self-involved New Yorker to bat an eyelash, except that the green ones are named Shrek and Fiona, the beloved animated couple who have already starred in three feature films and a Broadway musical last season.
Well, Shrek is back....walking the red carpet at the Opening Night Gala screening of SHREK FOREVER AFTER at the Tribeca Film Festival on Wednesday night at the...
Do you remember when you were a little kid and you heard that the circus was coming to town? For me, it is a warm and still excitable feeling. Well, as a jaded adult, such simple pleasures are not supposed to create a sense of excitement (been there, done that) but the arrival (sound the trumpets!!!) of the Tribeca Film Festival this week is cause for circus-like jubilation.
OK, let's get the jaded criticism out of the way.....the Tribeca Film Festival, formed 9 years ago as a sti...

The Festival program features an international line-up of 85 feature length and 47 short films that will be announced shortly.
Tribeca has also announced two new initiatives that bring the Festival experience into people's homes:
