Amitabh Bachchan finally to visit Kraków!

One of the brightest stars of the Indian cinema - Amitabh Bachchan – will be our guest during this year's Off Plus Camera film festival.

He was to come to Kraków last year, but was unable to arrive because of the Icelandic volcano which had paralysed the air traffic in 2010. Amitabh Bachchan accepted our invitation one more time and we do hope that this year he arrives without incidents at our festival!Amitabh Bachchan, mainly famous for his role in “Happiness & Tears", will take part in the special screening of the film “Dev” (2004) in the Kijów.Centrum cinema. The picture directed by Govind Nihalani discusses the hot topic of religious conflicts in contemporary India. The movie tells the story of a friendship between two policemen (Amitabh Bachchan and Om Puri), which undergoes a shakedown as a result by religious riots. The action is set in present-day Bombay. “Dev” was well received in India and was granted with the critics award for best picture handed by Filmfare magazine (the most prestigious film award in India).

Amitabh Bachchan will also meet the festival participants in the STU Theatre during a poetry evening, where he will present the poems of his late father Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who died in 2003. He was a Hindi poet, a renowned representative of the Chhayavaad literary movement, author of poems and narrative poetry. He also translated Shakespeare into Hindi. His most famous work is “Madhushala” with Sufi incantations. Amitabh Bachchan is a great advocate of his father's writings internationally, having presented them already in New York and Paris. His reading of the poems of his father were recorded and published as an album “Bachchan Recites Bachchan” in 1979.
