Stuttgart Festival Of Animated Film's blogThe 19th Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film
Between May 8th and 13th, 2012 Stuttgart will once again become the centre of international animation films. For the 19th
time, the Festival of Animated Film invites directors, production
companies, distributors and international sales companies to present
their animated films.
Artistic
animation films and the support of young talents represent the core of
the festival. The various competition programmes are endowed with prize
money of more than 50,000 Euros in total. The unique combination of the
Festival of Animated Film, the Animation Production Day and FMX, the
conference on Animation. Effects, Games and Interactive Media, has
established the event as one of the most important world-wide for
financing and developing animation projects.
The festival, founded in 1982, has developed into an essential event for animation film in Germany over the past 30 years and is one of the biggest and most important festivals for animated films around the world. Embedded in the unique setting of Stuttgart’s city centre, the open-air cinema adds a very special touch to the festival’s atmosphere. With the help of a big LED screen and right in the middle of Schlossplatz, the festival was able to present animated short and feature films starting at noon for the first time in 2011. About 75,000 visitors came to Stuttgart to watch around 1,000 films at the open-air location and at Stuttgart’s Innenstadtkinos – the centrally located cinemas. Among those visitors were prominent guests from the movie and animation sector such as Oscar winner Andrew Ruhemann and Oscar maker Ron Diamond, director Pierre Coffin and the actors Christoph Maria Herbst and Boris Aljinovic.
