French Film in Belgrade

23st – 25th of September 2011, Belgrade’s most popular city cinema Dom Omladine in the collaboration with French TV 5 Monde and French Institute for Culture in Belgrade showed revue of new production French films on the subject of rebellion and passion “la rébellion et la passion” due to issue of political or intimate passion of contemporary France. French film yesterday and today offers real lovebirds of contemporary French cinema to view with pleasure the greatest talents such as Catherine Denevue, Charlotte Rampling, Charlotte Gainsbourgh etc…on screen today. Known by their simplicity and simple elegance, French films have captivated audiences worldwide for many years now. Many French actors and directors are internationally well known today, even though their films usually play in independent and art cinemas. The memorable characters coupled with great actors and existential themes provide a popular antidote to action American films of nowadays, a kind of oposite alternative to relay on, on tiresome Sunday Evening. However, there are people who are dedicated to old American film or old British film, but many of us, here in Europe, are simply dedicated to French Cinematography. So if you say French films: there is a light question of nostalgia for all of us coming from Europe. Almost every Hollywood film now appeals to such a broad audience, and it is made rather formulaically and with special effects in order to become appealing to anyone with sufficient sophistication to read simple newspaper. Nevertheless many internationally acclaimed fish tank of French films recently and presumably rather good shown at no big modern cinema but on different film festivals all over the world. The French government invest lot of money into films, but the cinematography of such demand some sort of control, which is harsh in France, but not that harsh as in other European countries. What strikes one most about French films today, apart from the excellence, skilful editing and marvels photography is the original plotting, story invention, the understatement of actors and simplicity and charm in very wide aspect of the word, in order to appeal on different people and nationalities?

Therefore the charm is what distinguishes so much of contemporary French Cinema and September in Belgrade present a good chance for Belgrade audience to be introduce with new French directors and actors of a new generation with films such as:  L’Arbre et la forêt by  Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau, Rapt by  Lucas Belvaux, Hadewijch by  Bruno Dumont, Des filles en noir by  Jean-Paul Civeyrac, Un poison violent by  Katell Quillévéré, La Folle histoire d’amour de Simon Eskenazy by Jean-Jacques Zilbermann already presented on some crucial worldwide festival such as Cannes or Toronto Film Festivals.
