Minneapolis Underground Film Festival's blogThe controversial battleground for truly independent film: The Minneapolis Underground Film Festival gives voice to hidden filmmakers and their buried gems. Our mission is to exhibit artists, entertain our audiences and inspire filmmakers to create exiting original work. Hosted at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design the film festival utilizes state of the art screening facilities and multiple auditoriums to showcase underground cinema’s most provocative and original work. Our priority is promoting & screening local, national and international filmmakers submissions. This year's festival will also feature after-parties, music, cash & prize awards. Awards include Largest Audience, Best Soundtrack, Cinematography, Short Film, Editing, Experimental, Documentary, Best Feature and Audience Choice award. This year each award will feature selected prizes from our sponsors as well as the possibilty of being screened again in the future. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: This weekend December 3-5 2010 marks the Third Annual Minneapolis Underground Film Festival. Held at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design the mission has always been to show the films you will not find broadcast, online or at the multiplex. Underground films come from the heart and are made with a passion for storytelling. For too long this work has remained hidden and now is the time to bring it to light. Filmmakers use the film festival to network and exchange ideas. Audiences come to the festival to see original innovative work they won't see in the mainstream. Over half of this year's films our made locally and are showing to audiences for the first time. For festival goers there is free parking available at the MCAD parking ramp on 3rd Avenue south. There is a Friday opening night party at Jasmine 26 where festival pass holders will receive 1 free drink and Saturday be sure to stop by the Vixen highway screening after party at the downtown Minneapolis studio of DJ Venus DeMars. This year one lucky filmmaker will be awarded 7 days of soundstage time to shoot their next film, valued at $10,000. Audience members vote on films so be sure to fill out a ballot for your favorite film and help them succeed in their next project.
