The Global Film Village: Sir Sean Connery has reunited with the classic Aston Martin DB5

by Marc Halperin

The latest James Bond film is on hold because of financial problems at MGM and Connery has been replaced by a string of new Bonds that still haven't overcome his signature performance. Russell Crowe has stepped into the role of Robin Hood.  Sir Sean hasn't been seen in a new movie since 2003's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as Alan Quartermain. Some of us still think he was the last definitive Robin Hood in 1976's Robin and Marion with the wonderful Audrey Hepburn.

Now a Scottish company is finishing Scotland’s first animated feature in 3D with Sir Sean as the voice of Sir Billi.  Ed Asner has set the precedent for grandfatherly action heroes in the Award winning UP from Disney and Pixar. Who better than Sir Sean Connery to give it a shot as a retired veterinarian whose motto is “licensed to heal”. "He drives a rusty old Landover about the highlands, but when duty calls, he turns to the family classic  - the Aston Martin DB5,” said Director Sascha Hartmann.

Connery will be reunited with more than an Aston Martin in this movie. The theme song for the new film has been sung by Dame Shirley Bassey, who sang Bond theme songs for Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever.
