Gimme Yo Digits! by Kimberly Deisler

How many times have you seen something on the Internet andsaid to yourself, “I can do that and I can do it better?”  Well, the LA Comedy Shorts FilmFestival hosted another kick ass panel discussing the ways to make a livingwith online content.  “What?! I canmake money by posting shit on the Internet? Get the fuck outta here!” isprobably what you’re asking me right now. So read on future film/money maker!

The panelists consisted of a unique collection of clients, suits and a middle-man. Literally.  Comedy Central’sAtom TV guy Peter Ignacio, Abrams Artists Agency has this other guy who incharge of Digital Media, Brandon Martinez … a.k.a middle-man who appropriatelysat between the suits and the talent. Then the other suit, Brent Lilley is from Mosaic Media Group, Spike TV’sBlue Mountain State has this director guy, Scott Brown and then the smartchick, Lindsey Reckis head-writer, actress, etc. from Reckless Tortuga.

Ok, get a pen, you’re gonna wanna write this shitdown.

For the second time today, well, several times but duringboth panels, Twitter is a source of material … so, get on it!  While there is no real formula fortiming, new videos are about 2:30 minutes long, but don’t limit yourself if thestory you want to tell takes longer. Many outlets seemingly like shorter content, Starz looks for longerstuff.  The rule of thumb is thereis NO rule of thumb.  Be creative!Great examples of online stuff that went viral, like “Psycho Girlfriend” can befound on Recklesstortuga.com.  Andif you’ve been remiss this year, kick yourself because films entered into thisfestival will be shown on Atom.com and the winner gets a spot on ComedyCentral.  That is all for now, I’mfreaking starving after all this fun and all this information.
