IN THE PALACE is an International film festival dedicated to short films up to 27 minutes in length. It is held annualy in the late June in the Black Sea town of Balchik and the city of Varna. Established in 2003, the festival had grown from a competitive forum for student films into the largest and most prestigious short film festival in Bulgaria and the region.

Besides the annual film competition programmes, In The Palace is accompanied by several parallel events, special screenings, build-in workshops, trainings and master classes, and includes a film industry market section.

The 11th In The Palace ISFF will be held from June 29th to July 6th, 2013.

Dear Friends,

Your films and works are invited to compete in the 9th IN THE PALACE International Short Film Festival, Balchik, Bulgaria!

A few days left for the submission deadline for international participants: MARCH 25th

If selected, your film can compete in the following categories awarded by an International Jury:

  • fiction
  • documentary
  • animation
  • experimental and artworks


A prize fund of 25,000 Euro will be shared within the winners.

The 9th edition of the Festival consists of 4 competition programmes, many workshops, seminars, master classes, industry market and other satellite programmes and initiatives.

The Festival will pay screening fee for every film or work selected for the competitions.

Individual and institutional entries are accepted. The festival is open to both professionals and students.

There is an ENTRY FEE of 20 Euro.
