Bladerunner at Fantasporto, 2012

BLADE RUNNER IN FANTAS 2012

Bladerunner at Fantasporto, 2012

What better film to be honored at a 'Fantastic' film festival than the classic Sci-Fi film Bladerunner (1982)! At the 32nd International Film Festival of Porto (Fantasporto) the film was screened as an homage to cinemas of the future. Directed by Ridley Scott, the canonical film was based on the novel by Sci-Fi writer Philip K. Dick called: "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" about a time in the future where androids (who look like humans but are more like programed robots) outnumber the human species under threat. The marginalized humans must fight the androids to the death to regain their control of the planet.

I recently did an interview with the costume designer of Bladerunner, Michael Kaplan, whose latest work was for the film Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011). Click on the link below to read.

Interview with Michael Kaplan:

ME: Do you have a favorite film that you’ve worked on?

MICHAEL: Uh, I have a few favorites. I mean, there’s no way you couldn’t have BLADERUNNER be a favorite. It’s so many other people’s favorite film. I love everything about the experience of FIGHT CLUB because I loved making it, I loved the process, I loved going to work every day, I loved the actors, I loved Helena Bonham Carter and Edward and Brad and all the other actors that were in the film. So, to work on a project that you really enjoyed doing while you were doing it and then have it kind of come together in a way where you’re really proud of the look and the affect. And I think it was such a great script that’s why it kind of remains in my mind as a favorite.
