EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY YOUNG AUDIENCE AWARD 2012

Kauwboy Directed by Boudewijn Koole - the netherlands

WHAT IS THE YOUNG AUDIENCE AWARD?
It is a new award presented for the first time in 2012. On 10 June –
Young Audience Film Day - three nominated films will be screened in six
countries to an audience of 10-13 year-old children in Amsterdam,
Belgrade, Copenhagen, Erfurt, Norrköping and Turin.

WHAT IS THE EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY?
The European Film Academy (in short: EFA) was founded in 1988 under the
Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, its first president. Today it unites
more than 2,600 filmmakers – directors, producers, actors and actresses,
cinematographers, screenwriters, editors, production designers and
other film professionals – from across Europe.
Every year, the EFA presents the European Film Awards which celebrate the best in European cinema.

WHO CHOOSES THE NOMINATIONS?
The nominations are chosen by three directors of children’s film
festivals. They look at all films for a 10-13-year-old audience and
decide which three films get a nomination. This takes place in the end
of April.

WHO VOTES FOR THE WINNER?
All children who participate in the Young Audience Film Day screenings
in Amsterdam, Belgrade, Copenhagen, Erfurt, Norrköping and Turin will
act as a jury and vote for the winner right after the screenings. The
winner will then be announced on the same day in Erfurt (Germany) and
will receive the European Film Awards statuette.

WHERE DOES THE STATUETTE COME FROM?
The awards statuette is a silver statuette of a woman in a star-covered
dress. It comes from London where the British jeweller and designer Theo
Fennell each year produces the statuettes for all winners. The
statuette is 26 cm tall and weighs 2 kilograms.
