The 21st Flickerfest International Short Film Festival has announced its Australian program with 45 short films

The 21st Flickerfest International Short Film Festival has announced its Australian program with 45 short films chosen from over 2,200 entries. Five WA films made the official selection in what looks to be a stellar line up of talent on display from the State. Congratulations to the films, George Jones and the Giant SquidCrosshairsGood Pretender,Transmission and Bush Basher. Flickerfest begins its national tour around the country from January through to May in 2012. Read on to find out more about the WA films in competition.

Flickerfest's Festival Director Bronwyn Kidd has been impressed by this year's Australian program, "It's fantastic to discover and celebrate such great Australian short film making talent in the festival again this year, Flickerfest is proud to be a platform for bold compelling stories told by fresh new story tellers with new perspectives on cinema and the telling of Australian stories on the screen. We look forward to sharing these amazing stories with audiences both over our ten day festival in Bondi and across Australia on our 37 venue national tour."

Flickerfest is Australia's only Academy®TM accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival. It kicks off the summer cinema season under the stars at Bondi Beach, screening the best short films from Australia and the world in the chilled and iconic location of the Bondi Pavilion from Friday, 6 January to Sunday, 15 January. It will go on to tour over 37 venues nationally from January through to May 2012.

WA films in the Australian program:

Bush Basher - World Premiere
Writer/Director: Ben Young
Producers: Tenille Kennedy, Ross Hutchens and Colin South

Weed and his father Perry haven't seen each other much since Perry and Weed's mum divorced. Attempting to reconnect, Perry takes Weed to an old family haunt that he and his father would escape to for weekends away. It's the perfect opportunity to toughen Weed up, teach him to shoot guns and drink beer around the campfire. They find a common ground as Perry remembers a story about his father and it seems the two might finally bond, until Weed lets slip that his mum has been involved with another man. Betrayed, drunk and seeking revenge Perry decides to teach Weed a lesson. But the only lesson learned is, Weed is nothing like his father.

Crosshairs - Australian Premiere

Beau and Jamie, two brothers from a rural Western Australian town, are caught poaching a lamb from a neighbouring property. When Beau refuses to go quietly his younger brother becomes a pawn in a violent showdown.

George Jones and the Giant Squid - Revelation International Film Festival

In the waters of a distant island there lurks a giant squid. The islanders, fearful of its wrath, make frequent offerings in an effort to appease it. When George Jones' mother disappears, the young boy begins his hunt for the beast. George's secret quest brings him face to face with dangers unforetold, and threatens to destroy his already fragile relationship with his heartbroken father.
