Fantasia Announces Off-Frontières Projects

– A few weeks ago, Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival announced the projects selected for its inaugural Frontières International Co-Production Market. The overwhelmingly positive response for this new initiative inspired the Fantasia team to go even further and curate an Off-Frontières selection of film projects. This selection highlights a limited number of additional projects in a wider range of development stages, and proudly incorporates more projects from Quebec and Canada.

The Off-Frontières selection will consist of the following 10 projects:
CUT THROATS NINE (Canada) Director / Writer: Rodrigo Gudiño / Producer: Marco Pecota (Rue Morgue Cinema)
MEMENTO MORI (Canada) Director / Writer / Producer: Jovanka Vukovic / Writer / Producer: Jason Lapeyre (Osaka Sunset Pictures)
MYTHOSE (Quebec) Director / Writer: Albéric Aurtenèche / Producer: Simon Trottier (TCB Film)
N.O.I.R. (Quebec) Director / Writer: Yves Christian Fournier / Producer: Nicole Robert (Go Films)
NOON TOMORROW (USA) Director / Writer / Producer: Paul Hough (Paul Hough Entertainment)
PEDDLER’S GRAVE (USA) Director: Steven C. Miller / Writer: Ben Powell / Producer: Travis Stevens (Snowfort Pictures)
SUGAR CANDY BLUES (UK) Director: Simon Rumley / Writer / Producer: Rowan O’Neill (New Tension Films)
SWEET BLOOD (Quebec) Director / Writer: Elza Kephart / Writer / Producer: Patricia Gomez Zlatar / Producer: Christine Falco (Films Camera Oscura)
THE BEAT, SURRENDER! (Quebec) Director / Writer: Philippe Spurell
WAIT TILL HELEN COMES (Quebec) Writer / Producer: Victoria Sanchez (based on a novel by Mary Downing Hahn) (Just Believe Productions)

QUEBEC AND CANADA:
Seven of the ten projects come from Canada, with five of them hailing from Quebec.

Yves-Christian Fournier follows his internationally-acclaimed TOUT EST PARFAIT (EVERYTHING IS FINE) with N.O.I.R., with the support of the legendary Quebec producer Nicole Robert (LES 7 JOURS DU TALION, SUR LE SEUIL, and about 25 other films). Albéric Aurtenèche makes his feature debut with MYTHOSE, produced by Simon Trottier (FUNKYTOWN, MARTYRS).

Elzha Kephart (GRAVEYARD ALIVE) presents SWEET BLOOD with producer Christine Falco (LA VÉRITÉ), Philippe Spurell follows THE DESCENDANT with THE BEAT, SURRENDER!, and Actress Victoria Sanchez offers a first screenwriting and feature-producing effort with WAIT TILL HELEN COMES.

Following the recent premiere of her first short film THE CAPTURED BIRD (executive-produced by Guillermo Del Toro), Jovanka Vuckovic proposes the documentary project MEMENTO MORI, and Rue Morgue Founder Rodrigo Gudiño (THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF ROSALIND LEIGH) brings a remake of the western cult classic CUT THROATS NINE.

USA AND UK:
Prolific independent producer Travis Stevens (JODOROWSKY’S DUNE, A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE) supports Steven C. Miller and Ben Powell’s follow-up to THE AGGRESSION SCALE with PEDDLER’S GRAVE. Paul Hough, who will be at Fantasia to present THE HUMAN RACE, follows-up with NOON TOMORROW.

Finally, Fantasia-favorite Simon Rumley (RED, WHITE AND BLUE, THE LIVING AND THE DEAD) teams up with another writer for the first time with Rowan O’Neill’s SUGAR CANDY BLUES.

The Off-Frontières section of the Frontières International Co-Production Market will be part of the new Fantasia Industry Rendez-Vous, which will also include the Fantasia Film Market, similarly making its official debut in 2012 to support the sales efforts of the features that will be part of the festival’s programming. International producers and sales agents, distributors, broadcasters, talent agents and festival programmers will attend the Rendez-Vous from July 26 to the 29, 2012, within the 3-week body of the Fantasia Festival. Over the course of these four days, strategic meeting sessions will be held and a series of conferences will be organized to assemble the participants around current industry topics.

For the inaugural edition of the Industry Rendez-Vous, accreditation will be free of charge and the application deadline has been pushed to June 22nd. Please note that space is now limited.

Widely acclaimed as one of the largest and most influential genre film festivals in the world, the Fantasia International Film Festival will host its 16th edition from July 19 to August 7, 2012.
