Dances With Films's blog

Dances With Films, now in its 14th year, champions the unflinching spirit at the very core of the independent film scene. While the vast majority of film fests rely heavily on celebrity, we have relied on the innovation, talent, creativity and sweat equity that revolutionized the entertainment industry. And that reliance continues to prove successful with alumni moving on to write and direct celebrity-studded vehicles, star in blockbuster movies and network series, produce multi-million dollar films and create hit TV shows. Oh....and we even have a few OSCAR® nominees... In a world of formulaic, homogenized film festivals Dances With Films continues to break the rules

Dances With Films 2011 Call for Entries

Dances With Films, now in its 14th year, champions the
unflinching spirit at the very core of the independent film scene.  Living by its slogan “No Politics.  No Stars.  No Sh*t.” has earned DWF solid respect and street credibility
through its thirteen years of existence.   Consequently, an impressive array of film
professionals, film critics and audiences alike cover DWF each year to see
what’s new and different, and who is truly going places in the indie world.

DWF presents nearly 100 films each year to the LA filmmaking and
film-going community.  The festival
mandates that all competition films have no known actors, directors, producers,
or writers and selects films based on quality alone.  As such, DWF can boast Oscar nominees, series creators,
leading actors and many other successful industry players who are part of the
loyal DWF family, including alums Will Scheffer and Mark Olsen (creators of
HBO’s “Big Love”), Kathryn Morris (“Cold Case”), Bryan Cranston (“Breaking
Bad”), Alexander Skarsgaard (HBO’s “True Blood”) and John Putch (Director of
“Cougar Town”, “Ugly Betty”, and “Scrubs”).

DWF offers Canon HD cameras and other prizes worth up to $9,000
USD in various categories, although the 1,000+ filmmakers who have taken part
in the festival since its inception insist that the best prize is to be a DWF
alumus.

The Hollywood Reporter calls DWF “the
defiant fest of raw talent”.  Mark
Olsen and Will Scheffer give seriously high praise: “DWF manages to keep its
focus on the heart and soul while still putting small films on the map.”  Alumni Steve Coulter and Dee Wagner
(ETIQUETTE MAN) gratefully declare that “Not only was DWF the handsdown coolest
festival we went to, but simply put, it launched our film.  It definitely upped our pedigree in the
industry and opened many doors for us.
We signed a deal to distribute our short, as a direct result of the
screening at the Festival.”

For your chance to be part of this festival that puts celebrity
and politics aside to focus on the filmmaker, submit to Dances With Films
today!
