Comic On A Half Shell's blog

Are stand up comedians born or are they made? The answer to this historic nature versus nurture issue was put to the test when Garrison Leykam took the stage for his "Comic On A Half Shell" debut performance after taking Stephen Rosenfield's Stand Up Workshop and debuting at New York City’s famed Gotham Comedy Club. After appearing as a guest on Leykam's Conversation Crossroad radio show, Rosenfield (dubbed "the best known comedy teacher in the country" by The New York Times and founder of the American Comedy Institute) challenged him to take his course which includes an appearance at The Gotham Comedy Club. 'The Gotham' has been host to such comedy legends as Robert Klein, Jerry Seinfeld, Lewis Black, Jackie Mason and many others. "Becoming a stand up comic is something I've never done. It's totally out of my comfort zone," remarks Leykam, "but I'm never one to shy away from a challenge." And, Rosenfield has a track record of success teaching even beginners how to write solid, original material and to be well-rehearsed to perform in front of a "live" audience. The documentary “Comic On A Half Shell” follows Garrison as he experiences what it’s really like to bare it all in front of a “live” audience and work for laughs. “Are stand up comedians born or are they made?” The answer to this nature versus nurture issue was put to the test when radio talk show host Garrison Leykam took the stage for his "Comic On A Half Shell" debut performance at The Gotham Comedy Club.

After appearing as a guest on Leykam's Conversation Crossroad radio show, Stephen Rosenfield (dubbed "the best known comedy teacher in the country" by The New York Times and founder of the American Comedy Institute) challenged him to take his Stand Up Comedy Workshop and appear at The Gotham Comedy Club. "Becoming a stand up comic is something I've never done. It's totally out of my comfort zone," remarked Leykam, "but I'm never one to shy away from a challenge so I took Stephen up on it."
