Buffalo International Film Festival's blogBuffalo International Film Festival, a major world event highlights regional and international film. Since 2004, BIFF screens year-round through The Buffalo Film Society & promotes historic theaters esp. the world’s 1st movie theater opened in 1896 in Buffalo NY. The main festival takes place in October. The festival added competitive entries in 2011.

Dear Filmmaker:
Buffalo International Film Festival 2011 (October 2011) is pleased to offer you the first opportunity to enter.
Entry fees go up as the dates (to be finalized) of the festival are approached.
We accept any general entry on any topic and in any form (fiction, non-fiction, experimental), but have a number of special categories.
Early Postmarked: November 1, 2010 - March 31, 2011 Normal Postmarked: April 1, 2011 - June 30, 2011 Late Postmarked: July 1, 2011 - August 31, 2011 Extremely Late Postmarked: September 1, 2011 - September 10, 2011 Postmark is before midnight on the dates listed.
Running Times Short films are up to 40 minutes Feature films are over 40 minutes Short films 15 minutes or less may deduct 10% from entry fee (except for How Science Works).
Prizes Selected films will be awarded an “Official Selection of Buffalo International Film Festival” laurel. Audience Awards by category. Other prizes TBA.

How Science Works - Feature Films 40 50 75 100 How Science Works - Shorts - ONE MINUTE exactly 15 20 25 40 How Science Works - Short Films - over 1 minute, under 10 minutes 20 25 30 45 (How Science Works submissions should focus on the workings of the classical , empirical Scientific Method and helping the viewer to understand the workings of science as well as the applications and effects of science). There is no discount in the one minute category for HSW.

We also call this category “Up From Ashes” which may help to focus your work.)
Diversity of Devotion Theme (Doc or Fiction) Feature 40 50 75 100 Diversity of Devotion Theme (Doc or Fiction) Short 25 35 50 75 (The theme “Diversity of Devotion “ is intended to attract films and videos about the extremely varied ways in which human beings address and deal wit h the great mysteries of human existence. It may be through religious beliefs, philosophical beliefs, personal practices or the like. While these films may explain clearly a particular form of belief and practice, they should be positive and open-minded, contributing to cooperation, tolerance, and positive accomplishments toward the betterment of the human condition in the face of natural disaster, disease, the mysteries of the universe, pain, political abuse, intolerance, discrimination, and all other forms of man’s inhumanity to man. Solutions and non-restrictive, non-doctrinaire, positive approaches are welcomed.)

Rules and notices:
Previous Screenings: While we appreciate and value World Premiere, American Premieres, East Coast Premieres, New York State Premieres and Western New York Premieres, we do accept films that have been previously screened. Films should have been produced no earlier than 2010 to be considered for “new” screenings (as contrasted with screenings of “classic” films or in retrospectives).
Retrospectives: We are interested in retrospectives of important works by important film and video makers. Please feel free to submit proposals.

Payment Payment via Check, Money Order in US Dollars. Personal Checks must clear before entry is considered complete. Checks payable to Buffalo Film Festival. You may also pay through PayPal account BuffaloFilmFestival AT gmail.com (@ for AT)
DISCOUNTS Short films 15 minutes or less: Deduct 10% on entry fee (except for How Science Works short films). Student Films: Full time students of elementary, high school, college with ID deduct 15% on entry fee.
Other No entries will be returned even if accompanied by SSAE.
Submitter agrees to screenings at the film festival at our sole discretion. Other screenings will be discussed separately.
Submissions should be accompanied by: Pressbook, Full Credits, at least 3 images scanned at a minimun of 300dpi.
Submission Formats: DVD Exhibition Formats: DVD, BluRay, 35mm (platterable prints), 16mm 35mm two-projector prints must be pre-approved.
