25 years at Deauville...

As Claude Lelouch so aptly reminded the audience during the evening ceremony, A Man and A Woman took place in Deauville. That was also what he had said to its founders who were fervently hoping to create an American film festival 25 years ago. It was Lelouch's offer on how to help situate this Normandy beach town for the Americans.

25 years later, 25 stars were presented on tiers at the Centre Internationale de Deauville auditorium in celebration of this anniversary. Front and center were Kirk Douglas and Lauren Bacall. To their right, Gina Rowlands and John Hurt, while Claude Lelouch and Marie-France Pisier looked on from above.

25 year anniversary ceremony

From the fans in front of the Normandy Hotel to the tuxedo-clad casino regulars or the beach sunbathers, they were all there. The city also attracted an agriculture strike against American imports and a photographer strike demanding more respect for their line of work. As we wrap up our festival coverage, we leave you with a few more pics.
