In Three Seasons, 25-year-old
Vietnamese-born, but US-raised, writer/director Tony Bui weaves together
three tales of the new Vietnam, each told from the point-of-view of
those who suddenly find themselves foreigners in their own country,
passed over by the "improvements" of Western progress. "Three Seasons
is about East and West and people trying to find their place," explains
the director.
Originally structured to
be three separate stories, Bui ended up combining them as one. "There
was something in the script that I only discovered in the editing,"
he says. "I found the stories had the same emotional arc."
