Three Seasons

In Three Seasons, 25-year-old Vietnamese-born, but US-raised, writer/director Tony Bui weaves together three tales of the new Vietnam, each told from the point-of-view of those who suddenly find themselves foreigners in their own country, passed over by the "improvements" of Western progress. "Three Seasons is about East and West and people trying to find their place," explains the director.

Originally structured to be three separate stories, Bui ended up combining them as one. "There was something in the script that I only discovered in the editing," he says. "I found the stories had the same emotional arc."

Three Seasons
"I feel very deeply about this film," star and executive producer Harvey Keitel told Moving Pictures in Sundance, where the film won a number of top prizes at the film festival, including the grand jury prize and the audience award. "There are themes that Tony wrote about that mean a great deal to me. Which of us has not had the need to seek oneself out by meeting another, be it a friend, a lover, or someone else?"
Christopher Pickard
