Deauville is celebrating its 25th birthday with a gala evening (Sept 8) and a star-studded attendance: Cyd Charisse, James Coburn, John Hurt, Gena Rowlands, Sydney Pollack, Lauren Bacall, just to name a few. With a special homage to Maurice Jarre (Sept 3), Al Pacino (Sept 5), Robin Williams (Sept 7), Michael Caine (Sept 8), Ang Lee (Sept 9), almost every evening will be starry.

This American film festival is more than ever a showcase for top-grossing films yet continues to put the spotlight on independent productions made in the USA . In the perspective of awarding new talent, the Competition was created in 1995 and once again this year, the ten feature films will vie for the Grand Prize and the Jury Prize.

The 1998 edition of Deauville saw the addition of a short film competition, which this year is comprised of 10 films less than 30 minutes running time. The ten films are programmed for a special projection on Saturday, September 11th.
