Looking for Richard

Homage to Al Pacino
Al Pacino will be in the spotlight for tonight's evening event, which includes his presence and the screening of Looking for Richard. Of Sicilian descent, Alfredo Pacino was raised in the South Bronx until he dropped out of school at the age of 17. He worked at odd jobs for several years until he had raised enough money to go to acting school. He went on to join the Lee Strasberg's Actors Studio. From a drunk to a drug addict, his intense anti-hero roles on stage eventually led to his remarkable performance in Panic in Needle Park (1971), winning him an acting reputation. He was a star in both Godfather and Godfather II (1972, 1974), made many other films such as Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon and finally won an Oscar in 1992 for his role in Scent of a Woman.

Al Pacino

The stage remained a first love for Pacino and in 1996 he directed and starred in the well received Looking for Richard, a documentary style film presenting the staging of Shakespeare's "Richard III" juxtaposed with a look at what Shakespeare means to people in all walks of life.

BOWFINGER
Frank Oz, Director
"We didn't put the accent on Hollywood movie-making. Our movie is about a group of dreamers with ambition, but who are shall we say incompetent."
