with an homage to Maurice Jarre. The French composer will be
honored in a symbolic gesture of France linked to Hollywood. Born
in Lyon, France in 1924, Maurice Jarre studied at the Paris Conservatory
and then went on to write music for the concert hall and direct the
Theatre National Populaire.
It was in the 50's that he connected with the world of cinema
and by the 60's was composing music for major international films.
By the 80's, he was almost exclusively working in Hollywood. He won
three Academy Awards - all in collaboration with director David Lean
- for Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Doctor Zhivago (1965),
and A Passage to India (1984).
He married actress Dany Saval and his son, Jean-Michel Jarre,
has become a popular composer of synthesizer music. |
