HURRICANE
Marcus, 15 ans, est le meneur d'un groupe d'adolescents dans le quartier de l'East Village à New York. Ils commettent de petits vols à l'étalage et se réunissent dans un abri anti-bombes abandonné. Marcus essaye de trouver des repères dans une ville où il ne parvient même pas à respirer. Il est étouffé par son asthme, son optimisme et ses idéaux. Ayant perdu son père, il est hébergé par sa grand-mère Lucy, et rend visite régulièrement à sa mère, qui est en prison. Au cours de l'été, il tombe amoureux d'une fille de 14 ans, Melena, dont le père autoritaire fait tout pour séparer les deux adolescents. Pendant ce temps, Chip, le "dur" du groupe, pousse ses camarades à passer au stade supérieur dans la délinquance...
Marcus, 15 years old, leads a " club " of teenage boys in New York's East Village. They do small-time theft and hang out in an abandoned bomb-shelter. Marcus struggles to find morality in a city where he can't even breathe. Suffocated by his asthma, his optimism, and his ideals. He lives with his grandmother Lucy and often visits his mother in prison. His father is dead. By mid summer, Marcus falls in love with a 14-year-old girl, Melena whose overbearing father Paco forces the kids away from each other. At the same time, the "club" troublemaker Chip pushes his buddies into bigger crimes...

Morgan J. Freeman
Il sort diplômé en 1992 de l'Université de Santa Barbara. Il travaille ensuite à Paris comme assistant de production chez Why Not Productions. Il réalise alors deux courts métrages, dont un avec Melvil Poupaud. De retour aux Etats-Unis, il réalise quatre courts métrages dont "Boom" et "Waiting for the End of the World". Il devient second assistant-réalisateur sur "Milk and Honey" et "Welcome to the Dollhouse" (Bienvenue dans l'âge ingrat) de Todd Solondz, présenté en 1996 à Deauville. "Hurricane" est son premier long métrage.
