Viennale 2011 wrapped with an attendance close to 100 000

user
Coming to an end with today's screening of the closing film The Ides of March by George Clooney, the Viennale 2011 continues on its path of success. With an attendance of 96,700 at the 2011 festival as compared to last year's 96,300, the Viennale saw a slight increase in the number of visitors, less so than in previous years but at the same time an important and wonderful confirmation of the Viennale's steadily growing popularity. The filmmaker is an athlete. Conversations with Vittorio de Seta.

Director: Barbara Vey and Vincent Sorrel.
This portrait of a film director unlike any other attempts to capture the essence of Vittorio de Seta’s rapport with the humble people he filmed and elegantly brought to Cinema Scope’s big screen in color from the 1950s onwards. From his home in Calabria, the film director looks back over his epic films. Starting with the sound on his earliest short documentaries, this craftsman of the screen and pioneer of sound tells us how he went on small fishing boats catching swordfish, to the depths of sulfur mines and to the top of Mount Stromboli to film and record. Then, evoking his feature-length films such as “Diary of a Schoolteacher”, “Half a Man” and “Bandits of Orgosolo”, Vittorio de Seta explains how filming other people also involves a certain amount of soul searching.

The last Scene

Director: Sadaf Foroughi.
On his last hours of his last day before retirement, an old cinema projectionist falls in love with the protagonist of the first Iranian talkie.

user
A surprisingly large number of films in the programme of the 41st Berlinale Forum revolve around family, relationships and identity. Park's documentary Cheonggyecheon Medley places the threatened demolition of a tr...
