will be presented at CineVegas.
Festivals and films represented include:

International Film Festival (Canada)
Festival director Piers Handling will present Innocence.
*London International Film Festival (United Kingdom)
Festival director Adrian Wooten will present Wild About
Harry.
*CineManila (Philippines)
Tikoy Aquiluz will present two of the hottest new Filipino
films: Dead Sure and A Trip To Heaven.
*Oslo Films From the South (Norway)
Programmer Brynjar Bjerkem will present a personal journey
film from Peru entitled Faraway From Here.
*Chicago Latino International Film Festival (USA)
Festival director Pepe Vargas is bringing two films to CineVegas:
The Sentimental Teaser, an experimental comedy/tragedy
about contemporary life in Chile, as well as the hypnotic
Brazilian film Oriundi.
*Slamdance Film Festival (Utah, USA)
Festival director Peter Baxter is also bringing two films,
one old, The Bible and Gun Club,and one new, La
Somnabula, a breakthrough Argentinian film
*CineQuest (San Jose, CA, USA)
This silicon valley festival will present two Digital Features
representing the next wave in independent filmmaking Bel
Air directed by Christopher Coppola, and The Solid
Ones. Coppola will attend the screening of his film.
Complicated
Women Series
A
special CineVegas program this year is a film series titled
Complicated Women, inspired by the book by Mick La Salle,
Complicated Women - Sex and Power in Pre-Code Hollywood.
Films selected for the series will celebrate the groundbreaking,
sometimes scandalous work of women in film, from the '20's
and '30's to the modern era. There will be a book signing
by the author at Neiman Marcus on Thursday, November 30 from
5-7pm. Highlighting the Complicated Women series will be a
special event screening of the French film The Venus Beauty
Institute, directed by Tonie Marshall which swept the
French Oscars.
Youth-In-Film Program
As
a way of providing Nevada youth with a unique and significant
cultural experience, CineVegas will present films specifically
for young people ages 12 - 18. Students are bussed to the
screenings through the Clark County Partnership Program. Rural
Nevada youth from Elko and Ely are also coming, through the
donation of a bus from Frontier Tours and the Nevada Commission
on Tourism. FAO Schwartz, Aspen Youth Services and Station
Casinos are major sponsors of this program.
Youth-oriented films that will be screened during the Festival
include Not One Less (China), Legacy (USA) and
Mum and the Policeman (Sweden).
Nevada
is not a Wasteland!
In
addition, a video competition with the theme Nevada is not
a Wasteland! will be held. Students participating in the competition
must be between the ages of 12 and 18 and a resident of Nevada.
Each student will produce a film up to ten minutes in length
in digital, Hi-8, Super-8 or VHS format. Twelve films will
be selected to screen at CineVegas. Century 23 Computers and
Apple, Inc. are supporting this special program.
Shorts Competition
CineVegas
International Shorts competition is programmed by film critic
Jeanette Catsoulis.
Awards will be presented for Best Director, Best Cinematographer
and Audience Favorite. Short Films in competition include:

Seminars
New
Digital Seminar: The Digital Divide
The
focus of this seminar is the digital filmaking revolution.
Participants include Christopher Coppola, Brent Florence,
and Lloyd Silverman. Peter Belsito and Sydney Levine, the
co-founders of of filmfinders.com, which recently merged with
ifilms.com, will also be in attendance. This seminar will
be held on Thursday, November 30, 2000 from 1pm to 5pm.
Cinematography Seminar
Our
Cinematography Seminar will feature Director/Producer of Mother
Night and Slums of Beverly Hills, Tom Richards and Director/Producer
of Shindler's List and Saving Private Ryan,
Janusz Kaminsky. This seminar will be held on Friday, December
1, 2000 from 10:00am to 3:00pm.
Screenwriting Seminar
This
seminar will take place on Saturday, December 2. IMI Agent
John Karas will be the moderator and among our panelists is
Norman Steinberg (Blazing Saddles, My Favorite Year) who will
speak from 10:00am to 11:30 am. Following will be Fred Rubin,
professional teacher of writing, from 11:30am-1:00 pm. A panel
discussion with audience Q&A will take place from 1:30pm to
4:00pm.

CLE Conferences
Our CLE conference will feature former entertainment
attorney Peter Dekom as our keynote speaker. Peter Dekom has
represented stars such as Sylvester Stallone, John Travolta
and Rob Reiner. The conferences will be held on Thursday and
Friday, November 30 and December 1, 2000 from 9am to 5pm.
