The Las Vegas International Film Festival
November 28 - December 3, 2000

What other festival could be held in Paris, with a view of the Eiffel Tower -- while still taking place in the US?

The Las Vegas International Film Festival takes place at the luxurious Paris Hotel and Casino on the famous Las Vegas Strip, and kicks off with a screening of Nosferatu, the silent German Expressionist masterpiece. The film will be set to a symphony to be performed live by the Las Vegas Philharmonic, under the baton of guest conductor Berendt Heller from Berlin. This will be followed by a screening of Shadow of the Vampire, about the filming of Nosferatu, which stars John Malkovich, Willem DaFoe and Catherine McCormack. Screenings of the "Best of the Fest" will repeat all day Sunday after the festival.

The CineVegas International Film Festival is a nonprofit cultural arts organization that presents an annual film festival every year in December. Dedicated to bringing quality international and independent cinema to the Las Vegas audience, CineVegas also hosts special programs including Hollywood Premieres, Festival of Festivals program, film artist retrospectives, a short film competition, a Youth In Film program for Nevada young people, and a Nevada Filmmakers Showcase.

This year's festival includes an exciting program called "Festival of Festivals," screening 14 films chosen by festival directors to be presented at CineVegas. Festivals invited to participate in CineVegas 2000 are: Toronto, Hong Kong, Oslo "South," Chicago Latino, London, CineManila, Slamdance On The Road, and CineQuest. Two films will be presented from each festival, with the director and/or producer attending, as well as a representative from the festival itself.

The rest of the CineVegas program will be rounded out with films selected by the CineVegas Program Director, including Hollywood Premieres, Indie Features, Documentaries and the Short Film Competition. Also scheduled is the Complicated Women Film Series, running through December 2, screening The Animal Kingdom and Sinners in the Sun; and the Planet Film sidebar, screening Chunhgyang by Korean Director Im Tae Kwon.

With all this and much more on the program, festival-goers will barely have time for the slot machines!
