Dinard Takes the Indian Path

This year's festival crossed paths with the realities of the world. At Dinard on Sunday October 7, after the city was hit by a storm and news of the American strikes on terrorists in Afghanistan, the jury of the 12th Dinard Festival of British Films gave its top prize to The Warrior by Asif Kepadia, an Indian odyssey of a warrior who renounces violence.

The picturesque French seaside resort's annual gathering for the British and French film industries featured a competition of six films including: Steward Sugg's Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang; Sandra Goldbacher's Me Without You; and Saul Metzstein's Late Night Shopping.

The jury, which was headed by British actress Emily Watson, awarded the cinematographer prize to John Carney's On the Edge, about a young free spirit who opts for a psychiatric hospital over prison. Also, On the Edge won the audience award.

British actor Hugh Grant was present on Saturday for a screening of his box office hit Bridget Jones's Diary along with an annual festival golf tournament. Amongst the other thespians in attendance were Stellan Skarsgard (Dogville) and Martine McCutcheon (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang).
