Taking place over a period of years, Qui Plume La Lune? is the story of a close family fighting to maintain order amid calamity. When their mother dies, Suzanne and Marie look after their heartbroken father, who believes that he's looking after them. Life continues in a similar vein over the years as the girls grow up, and when they finally reach adolescence the inevitable problems start to pull the family apart. But when the girls ultimately reach adulthood, they realise they have a chance to bring the family together again. "Family has always been the thing that enriches me and feeds me always," asserts director Christine Carrière. "That may not be an earth-shattering revelation, but from -parents right down to my brothers and my sisters, my nephews and nieces, all those people are so very much a part of my life. So it's not surprising, of course, that they are also a part of what I write." "When La Femis asked me to tell them part of the story, I imagined a young girl that came back home a bit late one night and had an argument with her mother. I must emphasise though that the theme was 'violence and passion.'" Steve Grayson |
