Topless legs on deserted beach

There were 52 pairs in all. Mens', womens', kids'. All in jeans and shoes. Just legs sticking straight out of the sand, down past the restaurants, past the Martinez. Talk about a topless beach! Turns out it's a guerilla art installation by a small iconoclastic group calling itself 'Tiens! Voila Encore Autre Chose', which translates roughly as 'Look! Something Else', led by painter and sculptor Vladimir Cruells. They just want to combine different media for the sake of expression. (Exclusive photo by David Morgan.)

* Did you go to Felicity Shagwell's Entrance? Or to Austin Powers' Passage? New Line's Austin Powers party on Saturday night was a hot ticket, but only until you got there and found yourself segregated. Women will be outraged to learn that Felicity invitations were for the barn, while the Austin Powers do was at the Palm Beach Casino itself, with its elegant terrace. Next door in the barn, surrounded by trodden-down earth, half a dozen go-go dancers cavorted on platforms to ear- splitting mod music. Looking slightly lost, senior executives of at least one inter-national sales company, as well as some of the cast of Wonderland, wandered around the industrial backlot, looking over the security-enforced barriers to the upper class terrace party 50 metres away.

* Back in Cannes and shining on the Soho House boat last night was Germany's own Mechthild Holter, who, with her partner, Bela Jarzyk, runs the Berlin-based Players agency. Mechthild is responsible for a whole slew of major German talent, including Katharina Thalbach, Michael Gwisdek and Corinna Harfouch, as well as up-and-coming talent like Moritz Bleibtreu, Maria Schrader, Juliane Köhler and Meret Becker.

* Who says the movies don't make money? In Germany, stock market floatations on the booming Neuer Markt have yielded unprecedented dividends. Still, if you had second thoughts about investing in Munich-based EM.TV two years ago, then you should really give yourself a jolly good kick up the arse. EM.TV boss Thomas Haffa and his team of millionaire co-workers don't need to do that. The shares priced DM34 that they bought two years ago are now worth the princely sum of DM3,640.
