| Partying with the Blues Brothers | |
| The critics may have given rather mediocre marks to the film Blues Brothers 2000 by John Landis, but their party held at the Palm Beach Casino was the ultimate in Saturday night fever. As you walked in, you were given a Blues Brother hat and a pair of Wayfarer Ray-Ban sunglasses. | ![]() |

B.B. King, who plays Malvern Gasperson in this film sequel, gave a blues performance to match his seven Grammy awards. Sam Moore, from ex-Sam & Dave – Stax Records, sang two straight-to-the-heart songs: Soul Man, of course, and Otis Redding’s I’ve Been Loving You to Long. The tuxedo-clad party-goers forgot the word dignity as they stampeded the goodie bag table. The musts to be had in the goodie bag included a badge, T-shirt, 2 CDs – Blues Brothers & B.B. King, as well as the all important harmonica. It is possible that Leonardo DiCaprio will be on the Croisette for Cannes 1999. Lions Gate Films has confirmed that DiCaprio has agreed to play the lead in the film American Psycho based on the best-selling novel by Brett Easton Ellis. It tells the story of a young New York stock broker who commits twisted, vicious murders. Shooting begins in New York this fall and DiCaprio will be paid $21 million for his role, representing one half of the film budget. Gerard Depardieu was in town to honor French actor/director/producer Claude Berri, who was being honored in the homage section Profession: Producer. The dynamo Depardieu is expected to direct his first film Un Pont entre deux Rives this summer, starring Carole Bouquet opposite himself. Rumor has it that Depardieu convinced a French top model to stay in town to be in a photo shoot with him. |
