October's Cookie

October Films has acquired North American and UK rights to Robert Altman's Cookie's Fortune, his 33rd feature, which will star Glenn Close, Julianne Moore, Liv Tyler, Chris O'Donnell, Charles Dutton and Patricia Neal when it goes into production later this year.

Announced at the AFM, Cookie's Fortune, the story of an alleged murder and the ensuing investigation in the deep South, is being sold by Ernst (Etchie) Stroh's Moonstone Entertainment and produced by Stroh and Altman with Willi Baer credited as executive producer.

Prior to the Cannes market opening Moonstone has already sold Cookie's Fortune to France (Bac Films); Germany (Pandora); Spain (U Films); Italy (Lucky Red); Benelux (RCV 2000); Portugal (New Lineo); Switzerland (Monopole); Greece (Spentzos); Israel (Shapira Films); Poland (PolSat-TV); CIS (Tretyakovka); Serbia (Pro Vision); Turkey (UMUT); Singapore (Shaw Renters); The Middle East (Italia Films); Latin America (Ledafilms); Brazil (Top Tape) and South Africa (Nu Metro). This leaves very few territories to clear up during the market.

Last year Altman produced and Baer exec produced Alan Rudolph's critically acclaimed Afterglow for Moonstone, a project which resulted in an Academy award nomination for Julie Christie. CP
