Highland Crest Sets up Shop

Veteran sales agent Douglas Witkins has announced the formation of Highland Crest Pictures, a new theatrical sales company with the mission of releasing high quality titles budgeted at over $5 million. Films released under the Highland Crest banner will be cast-driven, according to Witkins.

"Our mandate with Highland Crest is the aggressive acquisition of films which can play to a worldwide theatrical audience," Witkins said. "Cast is vital, but we are also searching for the needle in the haystack – the film with that unique combination of wonderful script and commercial viability."

Highland Crest's first release will be the Deauville Film Festival hit Six Ways
To Sunday, starring Deborah Harry, Norman Redus, Elina Lowensohn,
Adrian Brody and Isaac Hayes. The film tells the twisted tale of an 18-year-old fledgling gangster on the brink of manhood. The film will be released
theatrically in the US by Stratosphere Entertainment in the fall and will be screened in the market at Cannes.

Highland Crest is the second new company created by Witkins in the past two years. To complement his successful sales company, Amazing Pictures, which targets worldwide primetime TV buyers, Witkins launched Picture This! Entertainment in 1996, a company focused on the niche market of gay and lesbian themed material.
