Intermedia handles Jagger's Enigma

Top indie financing, sales and distribution house Intermedia will be handling financing and worldwide distribution on the thriller Enigma, the first production from Mick Jagger's Jagged Films.

Emily Watson has meanwhile signed to play Caitlin Thomas, the wife of Dylan Thomas, on Jagged Films' The Map of Love, for which  international sales will be handled by Summit Entertainment.

Scripted by Tom Stoppard from a best-selling novel by Robert Harris and to be directed by Michael Apted, Enigma will be co-produced by Mick Jagger and Lorne Michaels (Wayne's World) at Broadway Video. Intermedia's Guy East and Nigel Sinclair will take executive  producer credits with Michael White and Apted; Jagged Films' Victoria Pearman will be Enigma's co-executive producer. The budget will come in at $12-$20 million, depending on key casting, said East.

The Enigma project derives from Jagger's love of spy films, as Jagger told Moving Pictures. Jagger teamed up with Michaels when both found that they were interested in Harris' novel.

A mystery thriller with a romantic interest, the pic is set at Bletchley Park during the Second World War. At the height of the Battle of the Atlantic, a  brilliant young mathematician struggles to crack the German codes and to resolve the identity of a woman on his team, with whom he falls in love.

The three principal leads are likely to be young British actors. Principle photography is scheduled for later this year.

Jagged Films is also in discussions with Paramount on "a very big comedy based on an original idea of Mick's about the music business," said Pearman.

Set in Britain and New York, The Map of Love will describe the fraught, boozy but deep love affair between Dylan and Caitlin Thomas.

Intermedia's addition of Enigma to its financing and sales slate comes as the company is riding high with a string of box office successes such as Peter Howitt's Sliding Doors  and Woody Allen's Deconstructing Harry, both of which it sold internationally.
