The selection of David Cronenberg's Crash in competition at this year's Cannes Film Festival marks the fourth Alliance Communications production to be selected for the event in 10 years.
Based on the novel by JG Ballard, Crash is a provocative tale of eroticism and technology. It explores the sexual passion provoked by traumatic car accidents. The film's cast includes James Spader, Holly Hunter, Elias Koteas, Deborah Unger and Rosanna Arquette.
“Crash is a powerful and brilliantly disturbing film,” said Robert Lantos, chairman and chief executive officer of Alliance Communications Corporation. "Nothing quite like it has been filmed before."
Cronenberg described Crash as an important challenge: "It's a dangerous film in many ways. Everyone involved in the film is both afraid of and excited by the challenge of exploring society's fascination and our personal fascination with technology and sexuality."
Alliance has licensed distribution rights in the US to Fine Line Features, and through MDP Worldwide to leading international distributors, such as BAC Films in France, Jugendfilm in Germany, Filmauro in Italy, Nippon Herald in Japan, and Village Roadshow in Australia. Alliance Releasing will distribute in Canada.
