1915. La guerre fait rage à travers l'Europe, mais les artistes et écrivains de la Bohème londonienne continuent à vivre et festoyer comme si de rien n'était, défiant allègrement les mœurs victoriennes, raillant les déclarations pompeuses des hommes politiques et le conformisme des peintres et sculpteurs bourgeois. Par un bel après-midi d'hiver, l'écrivain Lytton Strachey, célibataire endurci, et manifestement "gay", part pour le sud de l'Angleterre, rendre visite à la sur de Virginia Woolf, Vanessa Bell, et à son mari, Clive.
1915. The war is raging in Europe, but the artists and writers of bohemian London continue to live and feast as if nothing was wrong, light-heartedly defying the Victorian morals, scoffing at the pompous declarations of politicians and the conformity of bourgeois painters and sculptors. One beautiful winter afternoon, the writer Lytton Strachey, a bachelor, obviously gay, leaves for the South of England to visit Virginia Woolf's sister, Vanessa Bell and her husband, Clive.
