“Punto de Vista” The Documentary Film Festival of Navarra

Call for entries

PUNTO DE VISTA, the Documentary Film Festival of Navarra calls for a competition, open to participation by documentaries of any nationality made in after 1 August 2006. The deadline for sending films is next 30 September.
Fiction, institutional or publicity films will not be admitted, nor reports or works of a journalistic nature.

Festival’s identity

The Punto de Vista Documentary Film Festival is a space for celebrating, discovering and analysing the form of cinema generically grouped under the heading of ‘documentary’.
It is held annually in Pamplona (Spain) in February, and is organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Regional Government of Navarre.
In 2008 the festival will take place between the 15th and the 23rd of February.
The Festival is open to all non-fiction audiovisual forms, such as author’s documentaries, creation documentaries, experimental essays, diary films or works created using home, orphan or recycled materials.
Punto de Vista (the Spanish translation for “point of view”) aims to be a meeting point for all documentary film makers who, in a free and experimental way, explore the cinema ability for recording time and, as Jean Vigo used to say, “open our eyes and help us to look beyond the appearances”.
Considering the nature of this cinematographic author, Punto de Vista is an invitation for all film makers who offer a wider reality perception across their glances, and across their untransferable points of view, and who understand that the first of all ethical compromises for a documentary film maker is that one related to the cinematographic form itself.

The Festival has two main sections:

1) Official Section (competition). A single international competition will be held for feature-length films and shorts that have been received and selected according to the event’s rules.
2) ‘Festival of Festivals’ (out of competition). An international screening of the documentaries that have won the largest number of prizes in world festivals or other types of competition during the year immediately prior to this event. The inclusion of a film in this section will be exclusively by invitation from the Festival organisation.
Apart from these sections, the Festival includes retrospectives and special sections, and meetings with the filmmakers.

Official prizes:

"Punto de Vista" First Prize for the best film: 10.000 €
Prize Jean Vigo for the best Director: 5.000 €
First Prize for the best short film: 3.500 €
SPECIAL PRIZES:
The Audience's Special Prize for the best film: 2.500 €
Special mentions: The Jury will be able to award up to two special mentions, worth 1.000 € each.
Should Punto de Vista First Prize be awarded to a short film, Prize for the best short film will not be awarded at all and its sum will be kept for the Jury in order to increase the sum of the Special Mentions (up to 2.000 euros) or to award new ones.
