This festival
is an adaptation of the Audiovisual Creation Festival of Navarre, which
held its tenth edition in 2002. Starting with this new edition, the
Festival is specialising in Documentary Cinema and it will be held annually
in the city of Pamplona.
The
next edition will take place from 18th to 26th of February 2005.
Festival’s
identity
The
Documentary Film Festival of Navarra is a space for celebrating, discovering
and analysing the form of cinema generically grouped under the heading
of ‘documentary’.
The Festival is open to all non-fiction audiovisual forms, such as signature
documentaries, creation documentaries, false documentaries, essays,
ethnographic documentaries, art documentaries, montages and collages,
testimonial documentaries, diary films, or work created using home,
orphan or recycled materials.
The main aims of the Festival include a response to the work of filmmakers
who use film as a proposal for search and creation based on the ability
of film to record a particular time; filmmakers who conceive their work
as a process of knowledge about human beings and their world; creators
who reflect on reality and image through film. Filmmakers who broaden
both the perception of reality and the ways of expressing it through
audiovisual media. In short, the Festival is open to all films of a
documentary nature that are a reflection of all that is real.
The
Festival is organised into two official sections:
1) Official Section
(competition). A single international competition will be held for
feature-length films and shorts that have been received and selected
according to the event’s rules.
2) ‘Festival of Festivals’ (out of competition). An international
screening of the documentaries that have won the largest number of
prizes in world festivals or other types of competition during the
year immediately prior to this event. The inclusion of a film in this
section will be exclusively by invitation from the Festival organisation.
Apart from these
sections, the Festival includes retrospective and special sections,
and meetings with the creators.
