CANADIAN FILM CENTRE’S WORLDWIDE SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
With audience attendance that has tripled in four years, the Worldwide Short Film Festival (WSFF) is fast becoming one of the world’s premier short film festivals. Founded in 1994 and acquired by the Canadian Film Centre in 2000, the annual Festival presents over 200 short films and videos from Canada and around the world in competition screenings and special programmes.
Each year, thousands of submissions are received from filmmakers around the world challenging WSFF programmers to choose the very best, most unique and creative films and provide festival attendees the chance to sit back and travel the world through the amazing medium of short film
In addition to the screenings, the WSFF brings buyers, distributors, industry delegates and filmmakers together from around the world. The Short Films BIG IDEAS Symposium, offers participation in a series of seminars, panels and workshops on the art and commerce of short filmmaking. The Festival Business Centre has become the leading marketplace for the sale and acquisition of short films in North America, offering unparalleled opportunities for filmmakers to advance their careers.
The Festival’s prize package is one of the largest for short film in the world offering over $60,000 in cash and prizes to award winners. WSFF is accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. Award-winning films are eligible for consideration for the Academy Awards and the Genie Awards.
Located in downtown Toronto, the Worldwide Short Film Festival (WSFF) is fast becoming one of the world’s premier short film festivals, presenting the finest short films from around the world and attracting international buyers and distributors. This year’s festival runs from May 11-16, 2004. Deadline for entries is February 23. Accredited by the Academy Awards.
