in L.A., the Shriekfest Film Festival specializes
in horror, thrillers, Sci Fi, and fantasy films. In addition to showing shorts and features,
Shriekfest also has award categories for screenplays and filmmakers under eighteen.
I recently spoke with Denise Gossett, who founded Shriekfest
eleven years ago and continues to run the festival, which takes place this year
from September 29th to October 2nd. I wanted to learn more ...
For the last 3 months, more than 25 volunteers
have dedicated their time to view short films, in a group with their peers, or
watch features at home.

Battistini runs the All Sports Los
Angeles Film Festival here in the San Fernando Valley. The festival’s third annual screenings will
be at the El Portal Theater on November 11 – 13th, the same time we
will be at the Whitefire Theatre.

Young filmmakers today have more and better opportunities than ever to make
movies and get them seen. At the VFF, we’ve screened some films made by
teenagers, while other festivals are solely devoted to the work of young
filmmakers. Recently I spoke with Dorothy Supri, who, along with
Robin Saban, runs the International Student Film Festival
Hollywood. For nine years, the ISFFH has screened a wide range of works by

When The Valley Film Festival was first
founded, one of the main reasons was to correct cinema history. Sort of.
For instance, when you think of the classic film Casablanca, you think "Hollywood" when you should be thinking Burbank and Van Nuys...The Valley!
When Isla's plane takes off, leaving a
broken-hearted Rick behind on the airstrip in Casablanca, it wasn't from
the comforts of the Warner Bros. lot like the rest of the film...in Burbank...but what is now the Van Nuys...
