FIPRESCI Award 2016Jury members: Senem Aytac, Florian Vollmers, Andrei Liimets Film: GENTLE BREATH Jury comment: For a multi-layered and warm-hearted portrayal of the Colombian society. For its nuanced comment on gender roles and the inherent power relations in a visually distinct style with a subtle script and outstanding actors from multiple generations. Cross Religion AwardJury members: Andres Põder, Urmas Viilma, Stefanus, Kornelius, Philippe Jourdan, Erki Tamm Film: DARK FORTUNE Jury comment: The ecumenical jury thought the movie "Dark Fortune" noteworthy, for the human path through tragic trials, caring acts and empathy to the Christian message of love. With powerful acting and clever visuals, the movie teaches us to notice the everyday miracles and the acting of God in everyday life, through the human relationships, overcoming, the natural existential solitude of being human and surrounding us with love.

As of 2014 the festival holds the FIAPF accreditation for holding an international competition programme which puts the festival into the so- called A-category of film festivals, alongside other 14 festivals in the world (including Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, Karlovy Vary, San Sebastian, Shanghai, Tokyo etc). Black Nights has an umbrella structure with two sub-festivals PÖFF Shorts and youth and children's film festival Just Film taking place concurrently with the main festival,
