Stuttgart Festival Of Animated Film

The 27th Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (05.-10.05.2020)

Once a year, around April and May Stuttgart becomes the centre of international animation films. Since 1982, the Festival of Animated Film invites directors, production companies, distributors and international sales companies to present their animated films.

The International Animation Film Festival Stuttgart (ITFS) is one of the world's largest and most important festivals for animated film. The whole spectrum of current animation filmmaking with interfaces to visual effects, architecture, art, design, games and music are presented at the festival.

Set amidst the unique scenery of the Stuttgart city centre, the Open-Air Cinema creates a very special Festival atmosphere. On a large LED wall, screenings of animated shorts and popular box-office hits start at noon and so make the ITFS a Festival for the whole family. Up to 100,000 visitors come to Stuttgart to see around 1,000 films at the Open-Air and Innenstadtkinos Stuttgart cinemas.

The International Competition the Festival’s centrepiece, featuring animated shorts of high artistic quality produced in the previous year. An international jury composed of outstanding personalities of the animation scene awards prizes up to 90.000 Euro. Among them the Grand Prix, the Lotte Reiniger Award for Animated Film and German Voice Actor Award a prize for the best German-language voice artist in a feature-length animated film. In recent years, winners of this award have been well-known speakers such as Otto Waalkes, Axel Prahl and Alexandra Maria Lara.

The GameZone invites visitors to play, presenting innovative, high-quality computer games and interactive projects at the intersection of games and animation.
