Strangelove Festival

STRANGELOVE is an alternative arts festival on the topic of gender diversity and sexual orientation.Strangelove festival programs queer films, (interactive) performances, dance, visual arts, photography, literature, music and workshops.

‘Queer’ is a term that cannot be caged. It defies any parochialism, especially in terms of gender and sexual orientation. ‘Queer’ originally means ‘odd’, but also ‘faggot’. Strangelove embraced the term as a badge of honor.

Strangelove not only presents artistic work, but also functions as a creative platform for artists and activists exploring themes such as transgender, man/woman imaging, gender roles, feminism, sexual orientation, sexuality, counter culture and the political and social status of LGBTIQ people.

Additionally Strangelove is a meeting place where queers and anyone interested in the topic is invited to an open dialogue.Strangelove toured various cultural venues in Antwerp in the previous years (Extra City,
‘t Werkhuys, Froefroe Theatre, Zirkus, Carwash Theatre) and is organised this year from June 2nd till 4th in Het Bos in Antwerp.

Strangelove FilmFest - Call For Submission

The third edition of Strangelove – a Queer Festival will take place in March 2013 in Antwerp. The purpose of the festival is to promote queer cinema, performing arts, fine arts, literature and music. Traditionally, we open the festival with an exhibition. This year we’ll be looking out for artists who give their interpretation of ‘queer’.

If you want to submit a film, shortfilm or show us visual information, please send us a screener or a digital portfolio, with some information about your work. You’ll find more information on our online form for submissions. We’re looking forward to discover new work. The call for submissions  closes on December 15th 2012.
