The Reykjavík International Film Festival, RIFF, takes place between September 25th and October 5th. Screenings take place at Háskolabíó, Tjarnarbió, Bió Paradís and at the Nordic House. A variety of events will take place in Reykjavik and Kópavogur. This year’s festival is certainly a weighty one with a multitude of award-winning films being screened as well as those competing for the acclaimed Golden Puffin.

Last year’s festival was a great success and received excellent reviews:

“Filmmakers, if RIFF invites you to present your film, don't hesitate, just jump on a plane. The audience may not be big, but it's a friendly, arty and curious one.”

"REYKJAVIK — On the eve of its tenth installment, there was clearly no need for the Reykjavik International Film Festival to convince the world's A-listers to come to Iceland. Christopher Nolanhad just finished shooting a chunk of Interstellar on a nearby glacier. Ryan Gosling was in town, keeping a low profile while working with editor Valdis Oskarsdottir..."

The Hollywood Reporter by John DeFore, October 10, 2013.

Among the highlights of RIFF 2014 are:

* Twelve films by new directors compete for the Golden Puffin in the New Visions category.

* A fantastic variety of recent prize-winning films in the Open Seas category meðal annars kvikmyndina sem sigraði á kvikmyndahátíðinni Karlovy vary í júlí síðastliðnum.

* Green movies - documentaries on environmental matters in the category A Different Tomorrow.  Amongst them is the award-winning film Walking under water.

* Icelandic short films

* A variety of documentaries spanning topics from magicians, mental health, nature conservation and war.

RIFF  now announces  the first twelve films selected for screening at RIFF.  Over eighty feature length films will be screened at the festival.
