Reykjavik International Film FestivalThe 20th edition of the Reykjavík International Film Festival will take place between September 23rd and October 8th, 2023. Iceland’s major annual film event, the main purpose of RIFF is to offer a wide selection of groundbreaking, independent cinema, and to highlight the work of young and emerging filmmakers, by presenting only first and second works in the Grand Prix competition category New Visions. The objective of the festival is to increase general interest in independent cinema, increase the level of cinematic literacy and enrich film culture in Iceland by offering different cross-platform programs. RIFF Film Concert SÓLSTAFIR with classic "The Raven Flies" in ReykJavikSÓLSTAFIR + THE RAVEN FLIESFILM CONCERT Oct 1st 19:30 – SILURIANThe Icelandic heavy-metal band Sólstafir perform their own compositions to accompany Icelandic cult Viking movie When The Raven Flies by director Hrafn Gunnlaugsson. The film celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this year. In the end of August Sólstafir released their new album Ótta and will be performing songs from the album combined with older music to accompany Gunnlaugsson’s epic tale. Hrafn Gunnlaugsson screens his classic Viking saga, When The Raven Flies (1984), at his home at Laugarnes, Reykjavík. Afterwards there will be a Q&A session with the director and a tour of his amazing home, which is part Viking film museum, part exotica themed park. The event is bound to attract a full house.
