NOTICINE Review: The Spanish director Pedro del Santo begins his own journey to Oscar with "Paranoid Girls"

"The Spanish film" Girls Paranoid / Paranoid Girls " is running for Oscars, even though the Spanish Academy has not considered it locally. The rules of its counterpart of simply demanding a Hollywood premiere in Los Angeles, and even there is going to go Pedro del Santo, his producer and first-time director, lawyer, fashion photographer and filmmaker. In one of those worlds best known, the fashionismo, is where "Paranoid Girls / Girls Paranoid" is located, to be screened in a room of Los Angeles with the hope that the press and academics and look to have any chance of being nominated in any category (except foreign film).

Del Santo has rented a room in the area Laemmle Theaters Los Angeles, knowing that their chances are more limited, since they have been very few Spanish films that caught the attention of the Academy apart from Spain presented the Oscar Foreign. It is true that many Hispanic professionals were nominated from the San Sebastian musician Alberto Iglesias cinematographer Nestor Almendros, to costume designers, production designers as Gil Parrondo (winner of two Academy) or writers, and especially actors like Javier Bardem or Penelope Cruz and Pedro Almodovar-naturally, but not usually in Spanish films.

As explained Santo the Hollywood Reporter, "After all the effort and hope that we have invested in the marvelous adventure that is this film, we did not settle for a" no "to the Spanish Academy, so we kept in touch with the Hollywood to ask if there was another way and to our surprise she said yes. "

What is "paranoid Girls" dramatic comedy written by Helena Montesinos, starring Mairen Muñoz, Marta Mir, Patricia Valley, Antonio Ibanez, Barbara de Lema, Miguel Angel, Monica Miranda and Spanish former diplomat Inocencio Arias? The Pedro del Santo himself defined it well in an interview with Duas. "The film tells the story of three models, starting with how to meet and evolve together in this world Ana, it is a sweet, tender and somewhat Cateta blogger Cuenca comes to Madrid to start a new life. He begins to share a flat with Paula, a nymphomaniac something thrown forward model, confident and crazy. Paula presented to Diana, the director of a modeling agency, ambitious and willing to manipulate situation to make things work. The other paranoid girl is Veronica, the photographer spoiled the egomaniacal star of the agency, but vulnerable to the vagaries of Michael, who takes on a darker side and more acidic, hooking up to the point where it must show its true strength. "

"This film is a commitment to new and unknown people" also claimed the producer-director, to add. "It's a comedy in key fiction, with dramatic strokes (no light) on the world of fashion The general tone the film is the comedy, but also show the drama of fashion darker "side.
