londonfeministfilmfestival

The London Feminist Film Festival was set up in 2011 as a response to the underrepresentation of women in the film industry, as well as to the lack of films addressing feminist issues and the fact that the representation of women on screen is often narrow and stereotypical.

The festival celebrates women creatives whilst ensuring that the feminist ethos extends to the films shown during the festival. The festival celebrates feminist films both past and present and aims are to inspire discussion about feminism and film, to support women directors, and to get feminist films seen by a wider audience.

The inaugural 2012 London Feminist Film Festival took place from 29 November to 2 December at Hackney Picturehouse. The 2012 festival saw eight screenings, over four days, screening a total of 16 films by up-and-coming directors as well as a number of feminist classics. Each film session was accompanied by a panel discussion or Q&A featuring filmmakers, activists, academics, and arts critics.

With almost 1000 people in attendance over the four days, the 2012 London Feminist Film Festival was a success. The great responses from filmmakers around the world and from our audiences underlined the need and support for a feminist film festival in the UK.

The festival returned to the Hackney Picturehouse for its second year between 24 and 30 November 2013, expanding the programme to 11 screenings over 7 days. The 2nd edition of LFFF was equally as successful as the first with again almost 1000 people attending our screenings and many of the directors in attendance from around the world to take part in our post screening discussions.

LFFF is back for 2015 and submissions are now open! Connect with us on Facebook or Twitteror sign up to our newsletter to stay up-to-date with details.
