JIHLAVA IDFF

The Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival is the largest festival of creative documentary films in Central and Eastern Europe. It draws attention to documentaries notable for their innovative visual style and a deeper social reflection and confrontation. The festival is famous for its informal atmosphere, discussion character and full screening venues – more than 40 000 viewers in total visited last year’s film screenings. The Jihlava IDFF is also a member and co-founder of Doc Alliance, an initiative of seven key European documentary film festivals - see more info at www.dafilms.com.

Every year, the festival programme selects winners in the international competition (Opus Bonum), the most remarkable Central and Eastern European documentaries (Between the Seas), the best Czech documentaries (Czech Joy), the best experimental documentaries (Fascinations), the best short docs (Short Joy), the most remarkable documentary debuts (First Lights), the best films on politics, nature and knowledge (Testimony) and the best Czech experimental documentary films (Fascinations: Exprmntl.cz).

A different perspective, both in terms of the cinematographic approach and thinking about the world is reflected in retrospective sections called Translucent Beings. The festival continues to explore what documentary cinema means. A section called Doc-fi shows how permeable the boundaries between documentary and fiction film are and Reality TV introduces the actual shapes of the crossbred genres like docudrama, docusoap, reality show or mockumentary to the audience. 22nd Jihlava IDFF 2018 will take place on October 25 – 30, in Jihlava (Czech Republic).

Deadline for films produced in 2017: March 31, 2018.
Deadline for films produced in 2018: May 31, 2018.
You can also submit a rough cut of your film by July 31, 2018
