The 12th annual HollyShorts Film Festival sponsored by BITPIX will open with alumni and festival Jury member Kenneth Kokin’s directorial debut BLOOD MOON written by Oscar Nominated Nicholas Kazan and produced by Tim Williams (In The Bedroom). The feature film stars Maya Kazan (The Knick), Frank Medrano (The Shawshank Redemption) and James Callis (Battle Star Galactica, Bridget Jones’s Diary). The innovative score was composed by Joe Kraemer (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation)  BLOOD MOON will be screened on August 11 at 6pm prior to the festival’s opening night shorts program.

Kenneth Kokin has produced and directed second unit on many award-winning films including “The Usual Suspects”, that received several BAFTAs, Independent Spirit Awards and two Academy Awards. Kokin’s films have received distinguished recognition including two Sundance awards, The Grand Jury Award and the Best International Drama Audience Award. He also produced and directed second unit on The Way of the Gun with Oscar winners Benicio Del Toro and Christopher McQuarrie and Oscar Nominees Juliette Lewis and James Caan.

BLOOD MOON is a story of seduction, retribution, and innocence lost. The film explores the transition from a perky, pretty teenager to someone who is forever warped from abuse and degradation. BLOOD MOON asks the question: when a man’s casual approach to sex turns ugly, how far will a woman go to avenge herself?

In 2006, Hollyshorts premiered Kokin’s short documentary For Tomorrow:The TOMS Shoes Story which was credited as the most instrumental tool leading to hundreds of millions of dollars in shoe sales. He received over 10 international and domestic awards for the film.

HollyShorts screening tickets, schedule and all access passes for HollyShorts are now available for purchase starting today at HollyShorts.com.
